MAKALELE NOT YET CONVINCED ABOUT KANTE DUE TO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

N’Golo Kante: Chelsea legend Claude Makelele not convinced due to Champions League
Kante, who joined Chelsea from Leicester last summer, enjoyed a stellar campaign last term as the Blues were crowned champions.
The diminutive Frenchman proved to be the engine room in midfield and his displays saw him clinch the PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year awards.
Makelele was the backbone of the Blues side that won back-to-back titles in 2004/05 and 05/06.
But the Frenchman thinks the compatriot will face tough tests again next season, especially with the Blues’ return to the Champions League.
“At the moment Kante is special and one of the best midfielders,” Makelele said.
“The problem is, I played 25 years in football at this level and comparisons are being made in a bad way.
“This season he did not play in the Champions League. Every four days there will be games.
“With the national team there will be games. There will be a lot of games. He needs to get that experience.
“When he is at that level, he will not run 90 minutes all the time. He will need to listen to the rhythm, the way he plays. This will be key for him.
“I hope this will be the situation. I hope he does better than I did in my career.”
