United Agree To Sign £30M Victor Lindelof From Benfica

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola via the Express, United have agreed terms with 22-year old Benfica defender Victor Lindelof. The report says that the transfer will be completed this week and that the deal would cost United £30 million plus £4.5 million in add-ons. United previously tried to sign Lindelof in the January transfer window although the two sides were unable to come to an agreement at the time.

This season, United's center-back pairing was a revolving door with the likes of Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, and Daley Blind all spending time at the position due to various levels of injury and ineffectiveness. While Bailly is expected to retain one of the spots, manager Jose Mourinho is said to be looking for a permanent partner for the Ivorian. The Red Devils were also linked to Real Madrid's Raphael Varane before eventually deciding on Lindelof.

The Swedish international is currently on international duty, with Sweden playing France in a World Cup qualifier on June 9, after which the deal is expected to be wrapped up. United is expected to overhaul the roster this summer, with a center-forward reportedly top on their priority list. While Antoine Griezmann was the original top target, the Frenchman decided to stay with Atletico Madrid. Now, Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Torino's Andrea Belotti are said to be United's top targets.
